20 January 2012 Burgundy 2010 wines 'well received'
A number of Burgundy 2010 wines have been well-received by wine merchants and critics, getting the year's campaign off to a good start.
The Liv-ex Fine Wine Exchange reported, however, that the vintage could be more expensive than the 2009s because yields are about 30-40 per cent lower, so stock is limited.
Indeed, investors could expect price rises of about five to ten per cent, with some popular domains following suit of last year's Bordeaux en primeurs and putting a 40 per cent premium on the wines.
In addition there could be a price war over Burgundy as demand from Asia increases. Liv-ex noted that this will largely only affect top-rated Burgundy wines like Romanee Conti.
Wine writer Allen Meadows was reported by the Exchange as suggesting that the 2010 vintage is even better than the 2009, scoring Romanee Conti 96-99. Tache, Clos Vougeot Homages Jean Morin and Chambertin also achieved this score.
