6 February 2012 DRC 2009 prices 'will not inflate rapidly'
The prices of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti's 2009 vintage will not inflate rapidly like Bordeaux fine wine has, one wine merchant has promised.
Wine investors can instead expect more "steady and logical" pricing of the wine on its release, despite the expectation that the vintage will be lapped up by buyers.
Speaking to Decanter.com, Adam Brett-Smith, managing director of Corney & Barrow, the sole importer of DRC, said: "The pricing structure in Burgundy is much more progressive."
He added that a "vintage like 2009 was a wonderful excuse to go ripping into the price", but stressed that the wine is having a 'sensible' reaction to the market.
The news provider reported that there are more 2009s than in other years. Production has seen 538 cases of Romanee-Conti and 1,828 of La Tache, suggesting that prices could remain steadier due to the ability to cope with demand.
Brett-Smith has described the 2009 vintage as having a "profundity that is at times unearthly" and compared it to the 1959 vintage.
