Marquis d'Angerville

In our opinion, Volnay is the finest red wine appellation in the Cote de Beaune and Marquis d'Angerville is the finest producer of Volnay. The domaine makes wines which somehow combine the ripe and rich dark fruits of the Cote de Beaune with the breed and finesse of the wines of the Cote de Nuits.

As with all the great domaines of Burgundy, the terroir is all important, giving each wine its own distinct personality year in, year out. The top wine is of course the Clos des Ducs but the florality of the Champans, the richness of the Caillerets or the purity of the Fremiets should not be missed.

Please find below an extensive offer of the domaine's wines including a Clos des Ducs which is just starting to drink and four other vineyards from the superlative 2010 and 2009 vintages. We have used notes from our favourite Burgundy critic, Allen Meadows of All the wines will be available in two weeks.

3 cases of 12 bottles Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs, Marquis d'Angerville 2002
£2200 In Bond per case of 12 bottles
‘Even after 10 years this remains almost as primary as when it was bottled as there are no secondary hints in evidence on the elegant and pure red berry fruit and stone-infused nose. The detailed, intense and strongly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess a sophisticated mouth feel while coating the palate with dry extract. There is a noticeably firm acid spine on the moderately austere and gorgeously persistent finish. This is a distinctly understated vintage for Clos des Ducs that seems to be evolving at a glacially slow pace. Tasted twice recently with similar notes. 93 points.’ Allen Meadows, Burghound
1 case of 12 bottles Volnay 1er Cru Champans, Marquis d'Angerville 2010
£840 In Bond per case of 12 bottles
‘Initially there is a touch of reduction though aggressive swirling liberates the admirably pure, fresh and elegant nose of a plenitude of floral notes along with a ripe mix of red berries and iron, stone and earth hints. There is good power and excellent complexity to the wonderfully well-delineated medium weight flavors that possess fine phenolic ripeness and superb energy on the focused, linear and stunningly long and saline-infused finish. This is a seriously impressive effort that is built to age. 94 points.’ Allen Meadows, Burghound
1 case of 12 bottles Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets, Marquis d'Angerville 2010
£820 In Bond per case of 12 bottles
‘This is notably riper and if not more elegant then certainly more aromatically complex with ripe notes of plum, violets, earth and the same pungent minerality. There is outstanding intensity to the beautifully detailed and seductively rich medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent vitality on the racy, indeed even explosive finish. A classy wine of richness and refinement. 92-94 points.’ Allen Meadows, Burghound
2 cases of 12 bottles Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets, Marquis d'Angerville 2009
£780 In Bond per case of 12 bottles
‘This is also quite ripe with liqueur-like aromas of raspberry, cassis and plum that cannot hide the almost aggressive wet stone nuances that carry over to the detailed, mouth coating and intense flavors that possess impeccable balance and outstanding length on the gorgeously complex and seriously long finish. This is terrific and absolutely worth your consideration. 93 points.’ Allen Meadows, Burghound
1 case of 12 bottles Volnay 1er Cru Fremiets, Marquis d'Angerville 2009
£390 In Bond per case of 12 bottles
‘Here the nose is appreciably fresher and also displays notes of red currant though the minerality now extends to the aromas and in hallmark Frémiets style, also suffuses the rich, supple and refined middle weight flavors blessed with ample amounts of dry extract that buffer the moderately firm tannins on the impressively long finish. The minerality is so strong that there is a Chablis-like saline character. A classy effort of finesse. 91-93 points.’ Allen Meadows, Burghound
1 case of 12 bottles Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles, Marquis d'Angerville 2009
£425 In Bond per case of 12 bottles
‘Very fresh and overtly ripe aromas of red currant, plum and raspberry give way to rich, supple and seductively round medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a delicious and discreetly mineral-infused finish. This is really quite lacy and notably finer than it usually is. 91 points.’ Allen Meadows, Burghound

Opus One

The release of Opus One every year is always exciting as it is such a popular wine globally. First produced in 1979 by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, it has become perhaps the most well-known and popular Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine to come out of the Napa Valley.

Domaine Leflaive

Domaine Leflaive has been producing some of the finest white wines from the best vineyards in Burgundy for decades. It is always a pleasure to drink their wines as they have an inimitable spicy character which makes them not only unique in Burgundy, but in the world as well.

Du Tertre

A beautiful summer's day like today is not normally the best time to offer red Bordeaux but we thought this opportunity was too good to miss. We have just secured some Château du Tertre, Margaux 2009 which we can offer at less than £30 per bottle on the table. It is not often we come across well-scored, 2009 classed growth Margaux at anywhere near this price so please find below the offer:

Château du Tertre, Margaux 2009 - £274.40 IB per case of 12 bottles

2012 Sassicaia

We are pleased to offer the brilliant Sassicaia 2012, at what we believe is the best price in the market.

The 2012 vintage has just been scored 99 out of a 100 by the Wine Enthousiast, surpassing the legendary 2004, 2008 and 2010.

9 cases of 6x75cl Sassicaia 2012 at £480 per case in bond.

2005 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904

As you probably know by now, we are huge fans of La Rioja Alta so we are extremely pleased to offer the latest and perhaps best vintage ever of La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904: the 2005.

The 2005 is a great successor to the 2004 and 2001 which were both very popular indeed. The 2005 vintage might just have the edge on the two former vintages but it is very hard to compare, with each vintage having its own personality.

Bordeaux 2014 - Haut Brion & Mission Haut Brion

Domaine Clarence Dillon have released today two of the star wines from 2014: Chateaux Haut Brion (£2320/case) & Mission Haut Brion (£1420/case). These were the last two wines we tried during our time in Bordeaux and what a send-off it was. The Haut Brion is supremely elegant with an incredibly long finish and the Mission Haut Brion showed its inimitable dark, spicy fruit on the nose but it is also made in a very elegant and focused style this year.
